In winter it’s easy to relegate your collection of t-shirts to bedtime wear, and basic utilization for under shirts. However, if you are particularly attached to your t’s there are ways to incorporate them into your winter wardrobe rotation and still keep you warm while emphasising your favourite t-shirts.  Here’s a brief guide of how to do just that.

The first rule of wearing t-shirts in winter is don’t be a fool and wear just a t-shirt. This may seem like a null point, but I see plenty of lads around doing just that. Remember, there is nothing less fashionable than being inappropriately dressed. First tip is use you t’s as the bottom layer; as you throw a jumper on over that, followed by a coat you are definitely going to get hot riding the train or in the office, and when you do these layers are going to come off revealing your beautiful ironic t-shirt beneath.

In terms of jumper, V-necks and cardigans provide the most reveal for what’s underneath. If you don’t care about this opt for a crew or even turtle neck jumper. If you want to go all the way with the reveal, leave your cardigan undone. Additionally, the more subdued the cardigan, the crazier you can go with the pattern on your t-shirts. Personally I try to wear as much colour as possible in the winter.

Jackets are another way to layer for warmth while still incorporating your t-shirt into your look. I like to layer up the basic t-shirt and jeans with either a leather or corduroy mechanic jacket that comes in at the waist. Something that has been seen a lot more this winter has been padded work shirts, which would go great over a t.

If you want to go a bit more casual (seriously? You’re already wearing a t-shirt, what more do you want?). Coordinate a long sleeve shirt under your t-shirt for maximum t-shirt exposure. Not a great look, but certainly a common one. I prefer to throw either grey or black hoodies over my t-shirts for both casual looks. Obviously this is for weather a little warmer.

I don’t want to sound like your mum, but bundle up out there or you’ll catch cold. Mostly you t-shirts are going to be your base layers for this season, but there are a couple ways to bring them out subtly to show them off.
